Live Grenade Brought To 'Gifts For Guns' Exchange
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (CBS) ―
A "Gifts for Guns" exchange got more than it bargained for when someone brought a live hand grenade, prompting the bomb squad.
Police offered $100 gift cards for each weapon surrendered at the parking lot behind the Target and Home Depot stores at 3471 Century Blvd. and were not expecting a grenade, Los Angeles police Lt. Mike McBride said.
The bomb squad disposed of the weapon.
Because police had promised "no questions asked," no one was arrested for possessing the explosive device.
Residents could anonymously turn in up to three firearms in exchange for the gift cards.
In all, Inglewood police collected 157 guns and the one hand grenade.
