Police I.D. Man Killed At O.C. Graduation Party
ANAHEIM
Anaheim police say a graduation party erupted in violence that left one party-goer dead and another in serious condition.
Police Sunday identified the dead man as 21-year-old Miguel Reyes of Anaheim.
Police arriving at the scene late Friday in the 1800 block of West Cerritos Avenue reported finding the dead male in the backyard of the house and a youth, about 15, on the front lawn bleeding from the head.
The 15-year-old believed he was hit over the head with a bottle. He was taken to an area hospital where it was discovered he was actually shot in the head. The teen is listed in serious condition.
Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez said the teen is expected to survive. It is believed the teen was shot unintentionally. Police also theorized Sunday that Reyes was targeted.
His body was found in a secluded spot on the property. Police believe he ran from his attackers and tried to hide.
Witnesses told police that five univited men, believed to be gang-bangers, crashed the party, attended by approximately 50-75 guests. Witnesses said the men were between 18-21 and all had shaved heads.
Within minutes of their arrival, guests said shots rang out.
Martinez said the suspects fled before police happened on the scene and remain at large.
The party was reportedly thrown by two sisters -- one of the siblings is a 17-year-old graduating from Loara High School Monday.
