Ex-Councilman Held For Alleged Child Molestation

GARDENA A mere two days after announcing he was resigning from the Gardena City Council, Oscar Medrano was arrested Wednesday for alleged child molestation.

Authorities said Medrano, 47, was arrested Wednesday morning at the jewelry store he has managed since 1992.

Medrano, who cited health reasons in resigning from his post Tuesday via a letter to the City Council, was arrested at Osmar Jewelry on W. Gardena Blvd., according to the Daily Breeze.

"An investigation began when reports came to us March 4th," said Dan Scott, of the Sheriff's Department's Special Victims Bureau. "We presented the facts to a judge and got a probable cause warrant, and now the D.A.'s office is reviewing the facts of the case to determine what charges to file."

Medrano was booked at the Carson Sheriff's Station for lewd conduct with a child under 14, and was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, Scott said.
