Gardena Officer Hurt In Hit-And-Run Crash

LOS ANGELES A Gardena police motorcycle officer was injured Tuesday in a hit-and-run crash on the northbound Harbor (110) Freeway near Gardena, authorities said.

The accident was reported shortly before 11 a.m. near El Segundo Boulevard in the Harbor Gateway area, said California Highway Patrol Officer David Porter.

The officer was taken to an area hospital in stable condition, according
to reports from the scene.

The hit-and-run vehicle was described as a gray 2002 Ford Focus, which
had "major traffic-collision damage," Porter said.

All northbound lanes were closed at El Segundo Boulevard while an investigation was conducted.

Alex Calder, flying over in Sky 9, said the back-up on the 110 was stretched for miles, as far at the 91 Freeway, and offered this helpful tidbit to drivers considering getting on the northbound 110.

"It goes without saying. Avoid the 110 if you can. It's a nightmare. And the cars that are here will be here for a while."
