An elderly woman struck by a car while holding her 2-year-old grandson in Garden Grove, remains in critical condition at an area hospital, according to authorities.
The woman is a 70-year-old from Korea who is Stateside to visit family.
Police say she has major head injuries most likely suffered upon falling and hitting her head against the curb.
Sources told KCAL 9's Michele Gile that the grandmother is not expected to survive.
Miraculously, the grandson she was carrying was not hurt, although he was taken to UCI Medical for precautionary tests.
The elderly woman was crossing at Yockey Street and Garden Grove Boulevard when she was hit shortly before midnight, said Garden Grove police Lt. Robert Fowler.
The victim was lying unconscious in the gutter with the child, who was reportedly clinging to her when police arrived.
The motorist told police she was driving westbound when she saw the
woman running across the street carrying the child. She said she swerved to avoid her but it was too late to stop, Fowler said.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident, he said.
