Woman Dies After Freight Train Crashes Into SUV

LOS ANGELES Authorities say a woman is dead after a Union Pacific freight train crashed into her sport utility vehicle on railroad tracks in Palmdale.

Los Angeles County sheriff's Deputy Dan McPherson says the accident occurred about 6:40 a.m. Thursday morning. Investigators are interviewing witnesses to determine why the woman's SUV was on the tracks.

McPherson says the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Palmdale is about 60 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
