Accountant Accused Of Bilking Forest Service
LOS ANGELES (AP) ―
A former Forest Service accountant has been arrested and charged with embezzling more than $1.4 million from the federal agency.
The U.S. Attorney's office says 36-year-old Kathy Stamps was taken into custody yesterday. She is charged with three counts of mail fraud and faces up to 60 years in prison if convicted.
A grand jury indictment alleges Stamps used her position at the Angeles National Forest offices in Arcadia to steal the money, which was later deposited into her personal bank accounts.
