Officials Issue Health Alert Over SoCal Wildfire

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― L.A. County officials have issued a health alert due to the fire burning in the hills within Griffith Park.

Health officials are warning residents to avoid physical activity in areas where smoke is visible and are cautioning people with heart and lung disease and other conditions to avoid the smoke altogether.

Authorities say the fire burning behind the Griffith Park Observatory has charred some 817 acres of brush and is 40 percent contained.

Officials say a man who suffered burns in the area of the fire's origin has been cited for smoking in a brush area, but he has not been named a suspect.

Officials say they are not prepared to say whether the fire was accidental or arson.
