Firefighters Put Out Fire At South L.A. Lumberyard

WILLOWBROOK Chopper 2 was over a fire at a lumberyard in South Los Angeles Tuesday morning as firefighters battled the blaze that erupted near power lines and was being fueled by piles of wooden pallets.

Firefighters were sent to 114th and Alameda streets about 6:30 a.m. and extinguished the blaze at 7:45 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. No injuries were reported.

As smoke rose from the fire zone, some nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution, and traffic was rerouted around the area.

Traffic on the nearby 105 Freeway was also backing up early in the morning as motorists stopped to look at the fire, according to CBS 2's Alex Calder.
