Firefighters Monday were working to extinguish a fire that was burning in a junkyard in Palmdale.
The fire was reported shortly after 7 a.m. in the 37800 bock of Sixth Street East, near Avenue R, according to county fire Inspector Paul Hartwell.
Students at Tumbleweed Elementary School, Palm Tree Elementary School, and Palmdale Learning Plaza were being kept indoors because of air quality concerns.
