Big Rig Fatally Injures Man In Wheelchair

LOS ANGELES Officials say a big rig struck and killed a man in a wheelchair Friday afternoon in downtown Los Angeles.

The accident occured just before 1:30 in the 1600 block of South Santa Fe Ave., according to d'Lisa Davies of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The pedestrian was reportedly declared dead at the scene.

Officials say the victim, who was not immediately identified, became entangled in the rig's back wheels and was dragged.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. Officials urged motorists to avoid the area during the evening commute as Sante Fe remains closed between Seventh Street and Olympic Boulevard.
