FEMA Wildfire Aid Deadline Is Wednesday

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― Los Angeles and Orange County residents who suffered property damage in the October wildfires have only until 6PM Wednesday (1/9) to file an application for aid through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, according to FEMA spokeswoman Dianna Gee.

Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego Riverside, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties were all hit hard by a number of fires that swept through drought-ravaged hillsides, stoked by raging Santa Ana winds.

Hundreds of thousands of acres were burned all across Southern California, with thousands of residents evacuated and many homes and other buildings destroyed.

Loans and other forms of aid are available to homeowners, renters and business owners in all of the affected areas.

Applications can be filed, and their status checked, by calling FEMA at (800) 621-FEMA (3362), or online at www.fema.gov.

So far, 18,685 people in Southern California have applied for state and federal disaster assistance, according to FEMA.

Wildfires fires in San Diego County, which was the hardest hit, destroyed 1,700 homes and charred 370,000 acres.
