Explosion In Underground Vault In Culver City

CULVER CITY (CBS) ―

An explosion in an underground vault in Culver City Monday interrupted electrical service to about 1,600 customers and damaged a couple of vehicles parked nearby, but no one was hurt, authorities said.

The problem near Buckingham Parkway and Slauson Avenue was reported about 11:15 a.m., said Gil Alexander of Southern California Edison.

According to Culver City fire Battalion Chief David White, there was no fire.

Alexander said electrical service was interrupted for about 40 minutes to about 1,600 customers. Crews were still working to restore electrical service to about a dozen commercial/industrial customers early this afternoon, Alexander said.

The cause of the problem was under investigation.
