CBS 2 / KCAL 9 Win 10 Emmys At 60th Annual Awards

For 4th Year In A Row, CBS 2 Wins Best 11 PM Broadcast

NORTH HOLLYWOOD CBS-owned sister stations CBS2 and KCAL9 combined for 10 prizes at the 60th Annual Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards Saturday.

For the fourth year in a row, CBS 2's 11 p.m. broadcast won the coveted award for best newscast, believed to be the first time any station has won that prize four straight times.

KCAL9, meanwhile, landed the coveted Emmy for best hour-long newscast, for its 10 p.m. edition.

In addition, NBC4 nabbed eight awards, and PBS affiliate KCET won six.

The awards were doled out to a dolled up crowd of news executives and news talent in North Hollywood.

Fox11 won four Emmys, and five stations -- ABC7, the local Fox Sports
channels, Univision's KMEX/KFTR combo, KTLA5, and LA Cityview 35 -- won three each, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences reported.

Four of the awards that went to KCET were for its "Life And Times"
show, which was cancelled last December, leaving Los Angeles as the largest city in the United States without a daily public TV news series.

Memorials were also offered for L.A. TV giants and personalities Johnny Grant, Larry Harmon, Stu Nahan and Bill Stulla.

Tthe KTLA Morning Show won the Emmy for best daytime newscast.

The Los Angeles Area Governors Award was presented to the Los Angeles Dodgers for their rich 50-year history of broadcasting in Los Angeles and their charitable endeavors throughout the Southern California community.

Former manager Tommy Lasorda gave the award to co-owner Jamie McCourt, as Dodgers greats Jimmy Campanis, Tommy Davis, Steve Garvey, Jim Gott, "Sweet Lou" Johnson, Lee Lacy, Ken Landreaux, Don Newcombe, Wes Parker and Darrel Thomas took to the stage.

Fox11 took the Emmy for unscheduled, live coverage of a breaking news
event for its broadcast of the May Day police melee at MacArthur Park, and veteran news producer Pete Noyes shared an Emmy with the station for a special report it aired after the incident.
