Carjacking Suspect Leads Police On Wild Chase
EL MONTE, Calif.
An armed man was arrested in El Monte Wednesday after a wild high-speed chase, a collision and two carjackings, police said.
Juan Chihuahua, 33, of El Monte, was arrested at Durfee Avenue and Exline Street.
Chihuahua was armed with two handguns and a rifle at the scene of a collision in the 4400 block of Maxon Road when he carjacked another motorist at about 2 p.m., El Monte police Detective George Mendoza said. No one was injured.
A police pursuit began near Ramona Road and Cogswell Street, and Chihuahua led police on a chase into West Covina, where he ditched the stolen car, leaving a gun inside, and carjacked another motorist, Mendoza said.
The chase led onto the San Bernardino (10) Freeway at speeds up to 80 mph and ended at about 2:30 p.m. in El Monte.
Chihuahua was booked on suspicion of two carjackings, assault with a deadly weapon and felony evading, He is scheduled to make his first appearance in Rio Hondo Court in El Monte Friday, Mendoza said.
