An East Los Angeles gang member, 20, who was spotted on a bicycle with a gun and then led sheriff's deputies on a chase, was behind bars Saturday, nursing a dog bite, a lieutenant said. The suspect, whose name was withheld, was seen on a bicycle near South Alma Avenue and East Olympic Boulevard about 11:15 Friday night, sheriff's Lt. Joe Badali of the East Los Angeles Station said.
Deputies noticed that the suspect had a handgun and tried to stop him, he said, but the man kept pedaling, then eventually abandoned the bike and ran.
Deputies on the ground and in a helicopter searched the area bounded by East Olympic Boulevard, Dittman Avenue, Union Pacific Avenue and South Indiana Street, he said.
About 12:10 a.m., a dog tracked down the suspect in a back yard and bit him on the upper body, Badali said. The suspect was taken to a hospital to be treated for the bite before going to jail.
Deputies found a loaded gun and unspecified drugs on the suspect, Badali said.
