A 3.9-magnitude quake struck the Gulf of Santa Catalina Tuesday.

A small earthquake struck the Gulf of Santa Catalina Tuesday, according to a preliminary report from the U.S. Geological Survey.
The 3.9-magnitude quake hit at 6:34 a.m.
Its epicenter 23 miles southeast of San Clemente Island and 35 miles south of Avalon, according to the computer-generated report.
