ER Technician Accused Of Raping Drunk Patient

NEWPORT BEACH (CBS) ― A hospital worker in Orange County is accused of raping an intoxicated patient, according to officials.

Jesse Karim Pena, who is an emergency room technician at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Newport Beach, is accused of raping a 31-year-old woman who was brought into the hospital in an inebriated condition, said authorities.

Pena remains behind bars in lieu of a $1 million bail.

Pena is scheduled to be arraigned on July 7.

The alleged rapist had been held on $100,000 bail since his arrest last Thursday but O.C. Superior Court Commissioner James Odriozola upped it today at the request of the D.A.'s office.

Pena faces up to eight years in prison if convicted.

D.A. spokesperson Farrah Emami said Pena logged himself into the room while he was on duty in the ER and raped the woman who was physically unable to resist.

Investigators determined that three male workers were near or around the woman after she was brought in and DNA samples were taken from them with Pena a reported match.

Anyone who has additional information about other alleged attacks or believes they have been a victim was asked to contact Supervising District Attorney Investigator Randy Litwin at (714) 347-8794, or the Orange County Sheriff's Department at (714) 647-7042.
