A motorist was injured and power lines came down Saturday when a vehicle crashed into a utility pole in unincorporated Glen Avon northwest of Riverside, according to a CalFire spokeswoman.
Firefighters worked for more than 90 minutes to free the motorist from the wreckage and the lines, according to CalFire and Southern California Edison accounts.
The crash caused an eight-minute outage that affected more than 1,000 Edison customers, a utility spokeswoman said.
Rescuers were sent to the crash at 6:03 a.m. and found the utility pole sheared off with power lines down on the vehicle, said CalFire-Riverside County spokeswoman Massiel De Guevara.
The crash occurred in the 4600 block of Galena Street near Rutile Street, just south of Van Buren Boulevard, according to De Guevara.
Edison workers shut off a circuit at 7:33 a.m. so rescuers could get the motorist out of the vehicle, and turned the circuit back on at 7:41 a.m., said Edison spokeswoman Lois Pitter Bruce.
There were no outages reported immediately after the crash, Pitter Bruce said. The eight-minute outage affected 1,046 customers, Pitter Bruce said.
Firefighters safely rescued the motorist from the vehicle and the power lines, and the patient was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, De Guevara said.
