Both Drivers Killed In Perris Head-On Crash
3 Others Injured In Friday Night Collision
PERRIS
Officials say both drivers were killed in a head-on collision in Perris Friday evening.
The accident occured on Cajalco Road, according to the coroner.
The deceased are identified as Jessica Violeta Rodriguez, 25, of Moreno Valley, and Gerardo Gomez-Martinez, 31, whose hometown was not specified.
The coroner also reported the crash occurred about 11:45 p.m. Friday on Cajalco Road, just west of Interstate 215.
Investigators believe Gomez-Martinez, who was driving a 1996 Isuzu Rodeo, was going at a high rate of speed (60-70 mph) and crossed into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with the 2003 Saturn Vue Rodriguez was driving.
Gomez-Martinez was thrown from the wreckage. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the crash scene at 12:15 a.m., according to the coroner.
Rodriguez's son, 14-months-old, and her husband were also injured, said CHP officer Sylvia Mosley. The injuries to the child and husband were described as minor.
It is not known if the third injury involved someone in Rodriguez's car or Gomez-Martinez's car. That person's condition was also not immediately available.
The California Highway Patrol investigated the crash.
