Missing Santa Clarita Hiker Found Near Campground
SANTA CLARITA
A 60-year-old was located found today, four days after he was supposed to have returned from a hiking trip in the Angeles National Forest.
Donald Lee of Lake Hughes, who set out for a planned hike in the area on Friday, was located at 4:30 p.m. near the Cienega Campground, located at the end of Templin Highway just east of the Golden State (5) Freeway, said Sgt. Darren Harris of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.
Lee "was slightly dehydrated, but is doing well," sheriff's deputies said.
"He had a cell phone conversation with his girlfriend on Sunday indicating that he had injured his knee, but was able to lighten his pack and continue hiking," Harris said. "That was the last contact with him."
The woman reported him missing late last night, and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team set out to find him around 11 p.m., using ground crews and a helicopter team, searching a 30-mile radius around Warm Springs Mountain in the Angeles National Forest.
Additional resources were brought in from around Los Angeles County, including personnel from the Palmdale and the Crescenta Valley sheriff's stations and the Montrose Search and Rescue Team.
