John Anthony Rico, 30, died at the scene of the shooting, which took place around 9 p.m. Thursday night.
Authorities identified a man who was fatally shot by a Los Angeles police officer while he allegedly choking the officer's partner during a domestic violence investigation in El Sereno.
John Anthony Rico, 30, died at the scene of the shooting, which took place around 9 p.m. Thursday night in the 5200 block of Huntington Drive, said Craig Harvey of the coroner's office.
Police went sent to the location in response to a family dispute and battery call, said Officer Jason Lee of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.
Officers found an injured female at the scene, who was treated and later hospitalized, according to LAPD Deputy Chief Sergio Diaz.
As the woman was being treated, the suspect returned to the crime scene and fought with the officers, Diaz said.
During the altercation, Rico assaulted an officer, choking him almost to the point of unconsciousness, Lee said. The officer's partner then shot at the assailant.
The injured police officer was transported to a hospital and later released, Lee said.
