10 Acres Scorched On 57 Freeway In Diamond Bar

DIAMOND BAR, Calif. A blaze has scorched at least five acres of brush just off the Orange (57) Freeway along the Orange-Los Angeles county line, county fire officials said.

A burning car apparently sparked the flames along the northbound 57. It was reported at about 2:10 p.m. Saturday just north of the county line, Los Angeles County fire spokeswoman Melanie Flores said.

Three lanes of the northbound freeway were closed near Tonner Canyon Road, north of the county line, and Highway Patrol officers at the scene have asked for Caltrans sign trucks to mark off those lanes because the freeway may be occupied by fire trucks for some time.

Brea Canyon Road has been shut down at the 57 Freeway in both directions.

Containment is expected by nightfall.
