Police in Huntington Beach say a man shot and killed himself Monday morning after a brief chase.
The man allegedly broke into the apartment of an ex-girlfriend and shot and wounded her before he fled the apartment and led the police on a chase.
Police were called at 9:28 a.m. to the 6400 block of Warner Avenue by a woman who said a man armed with a gun had gotten into her apartment and shot her, said Huntington Beach police Lt. David Bunetta.
Nicola Hernandez, 43, whose injuries were said to be non-life-threatening, told police the man, later identified as Jeffrey Tinnion, 51, of Huntington Beach, took off in a white Toyota Tundra SUV, Bunetta said.
Minutes later, officers used a PIT maneuver to disable the vehicle, and Tinnion got out of the SUV at Springdale Street and McFadden Avenue and shot himself in the head, Bunetta said.
He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Bunetta said.
The woman was also treated at a hospital for her wounds.
