Perris Man Arrested For Deadly Care Home Fire

PERRIS, Calif. (AP) ― Authorities say a mentally disabled man has been arrested for investigation of murder and arson after a weekend fire at his adult care home that killed one man and injured two other people.

Captain Mort Allen of the Riverside County Fire Department says 28-year-old Daniel Wood Konold was arrested yesterday after he told authorities he had used a disposable lighter to set bedding on fire in the home's common room.

Konold left the home after the fire started Saturday morning.

Allen says one man was killed as he tried to escape through a rear exit.

The man has not been identified because his body was so badly burned.

Two other people were taken to a hospital for treatment of minor burns.

Konold is being held on $1 million bail.
