SUV Driver Fatally Hits Mother,18, In Front Of Son

RIVERSIDE An 18-year-old woman out for a walk with her husband and son died when an SUV driven by an alleged drunken driver jumped a curb and struck her in Riverside, authorities said Tuesday.

Gloria Rodriguez of Riverside died on Tyler Avenue, just north of Robinson Avenue, shortly after 10 p.m. Monday, according to the Riverside County Coroner's office.

Rodriguez was struck by a Ford Explorer driven by Javier Hernandez, 23, of Riverside, Riverside police Officer Ken Madsen said.

Her husband and nearly 2-year-old son were uninjured, police said.

Hernandez was booked into the Robert Presley jail on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit and run with personal injury, assault with a deadly weapon and DUI, jail records show.

Hernandez was locked up Tuesday in lieu of $150,000 bail, pending arraignment at the Riverside Hall of Justice on Thursday, records show.
