Electricity service was restored to an estimated 3,800 customers in Panorama City Tuesday, more than five hours after a vehicle sheared a fire hydrant, sending water jetting into power lines, the Department of Water and Power reported.
The hydrant accident was reported about 10:40 p.m. Monday, DWP spokeswoman Carol Tucker said.
The outage disabled traffic lights, resulting in another traffic crash at Roscoe Boulevard and Woodman Avenue shortly before 1 a.m., an On Scene camera crew reported from the site.
Further south, smoke could be seen wafting from two manhole covers near Vanowen Street, On Scene reported. Tucker said she could not confirm whether the smoke had anything to do with the outages.
Power was restored to about 3,800 customers at 4 a.m., Tucker said.
