U.S. Department of Agriculture wildlife services trappers shot and killed seven coyotes after a man was reportedly attacked in Griffith Park last week.
The California Department of Fish and Game said the man was attacked by a coyote in Griffith Park last Wednesday. The victim said he was laying down near Travel Town and woke up to find a coyote biting his foot.
He was not seriously injured, but trappers found and killed seven of the animals Sunday and last week, according to wardens.
The attack was the second in less than a month in the 4,200-acre park. L.A. County Health officials said another person was bitten in late August.
According to experts, coyote attacks are on the rise, especially near homes that come close to open space. Drought, development and wildfires have depleted the coyotes' homes, leaving the animals in search for food and shelter.
Pop singer Jessica Simpson's dog was one of two attacked by coyotes in Los Angeles just last week.
