1 Badly Hurt, 5 Injured In Corona Van Explosion

CORONA A man was seriously injured Wednesday morning when a van exploded at a natural gas refueling station in Corona, according to authorities.

The explosion -- just after 9 a.m. -- also injured five others.

The blast was reported at a refueling station in the 400 block of Cota Street, where a Riverside Transit Authority bus and privately-owned passenger van were filling their tanks, according to Corona police Sgt. Jerry Pawluczenko.

"It was only those two vehicles there at the time," Pawluczenko said.

Three of the injured required treatment at area hospitals including the man who was seriously wounded. The man was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center in San Bernardino.

Pawluczenko said the van took the brunt of the blast.

"There is debris," Pawluczenko said. "It looks like part of a propane-like tank and some other vehicle (parts)."

The cause of the explosion was under investigation.
