Abducted Boy, 6, Found Safe In Las Vegas

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (CBS) ― Authorities say a 6-year-old kidnapped in what may have been a drug-trafficking tussle is back in his father's custody, and is being interviewed by Las Vegas police.

A hospital spokesman says Cole Puffinburger was treated and released to his father's care at about 5 a.m. Sunday.

FBI spokesman David Staretz says the boy is being interviewed by police about his ordeal.

Cole was found walking on a quiet Las Vegas street late Saturday. Police say the boy was discovered in "extremely good condition."

Cole's grandfather, Clemens Fred Tinnemeyer, who reportedly helped drug dealers launder millions of dollars, was arrested in Riverside late Friday and was being held in a federal lockup in San Bernardino pending an appearance in court on Monday in Riverside.

The boy was taken by three men with Spanish accents, who posed as police as they barged into his mother's home in northeast Las Vegas.

Authorities believe the kidnapping was meant as a message for Tinnemeyer, 51, who is said to owe $8 million to $20 million to methamphetamine producers in Mexico.

Federal authorities have called Tinnemeyer a "person of interest" in the case. He was being held without bail at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino on a material witness warrant, according to Laura Eimiller of the FBI.

Jesus Gastelum has been identified as a second "person of interest" in the case, Las Vegas Metro Police Capt. Vincent Cannito said.

Gastelum, a Mexican citizen, is believed to be in Las Vegas or Southern
California.
