Riverside Deputies Find Cockfighting Operation

PERRIS, Calif. (AP) ― Sheriff's deputies looking for the alleged operator of a stolen vehicle chop-shop at a Perris-area home instead discovered 57 caged roosters and illegal cockfighting blades.

Riverside County sheriff's deputies attempting to serve a search warrant Friday didn't find the man wanted for allegedly dismantling stolen vehicles to resell the parts on the black market.

Instead, the caged roosters and cockfighting weapons were found.

County Department of Animal Services spokesman John Welsch said the owner could now face animal cruelty charges. He said the confiscated birds will be euthanized.

The name of the man being sought hasn't been released.
