A clothing-optional resort in Palm Springs known for a nude bridge that allows nude patrons to cross over Indian Canyon Drive without being seen in the buff will reopen tomorrow under new ownership.
The grand reopening of The Desert Sun Resort is set for 4 p.m. Friday,
said owner Elizabeth Young.
"We bought it out of bankruptcy because we couldn't bear to lose this
beautiful place," said Young, who noted she and her husband visited the resort for years when it was known as The Desert Shadows Inn Resort & Villas.
"We've been to nude resorts all over the world, and this is by far the best one," she said.
She said rooms were quickly filling up with past patrons familiar with the property.
"We have guests coming from all over the world -- Germany, Australia
and Canada," she said.
The nudist retreat, which has 32 rooms, 59 condos and 17 town homes is a special place where people can "relax in a stress-free environment," said Young.
She said the resort's pool, spa and restaurant have been renovated, and
there's also plush waterfalls and streams.
It's a special place where people can "relax in a stress-free environment," she said.
First-timers unfamiliar with clothing-optional resorts are also welcome, she added.
"Once they get here ... they realize it's no big deal and that not everyone is a super model," Young said.
"It's a great place to come and reconnect with your husband, spouse or partner."
Members of the Chamber of Commerce, Palm Springs Hospitality Association and the City Council are to attend the grand reopening.
"Palm Springs is known for its diversity and for having everything for
everyone, and this has always been a great resort that we almost lost ... so we're thrilled to get it back," said City Councilwoman Ginny Foat.
She said she expects the resort to increase tourism.
"This is just another option for people who want to come and stay in Palm Springs," she said.
