Felony animal cruelty charges were filed against a Chino cattleman after sick cows and rotting carcasses were found in a filthy barn.
Albert Buitenhuis was one of two men accused of animal cruelty in July after investigators found sick and dead cows in a dairy barn. The Inland Valley Humane Society said more than a dozen calves were standing atop decaying carcasses.
Investigators said Buitenhuis and partner Albert Rodriguez bought sick calves at auction and then sold those that didn't die. They were initially charged with a single count of felony animal cruelty.
Rodriguez pleaded guilty, paid a $525 fine and was placed on probation.
But Buitenhuis didn't take a similar deal so prosecutors filed an additional 12 felony counts on Monday.
