2 Charged With Exporting Thermal Cameras To China
LOS ANGELES (AP) ―
A man and his nephew have made an initial appearance in federal court in Los Angeles on charges of conspiracy and illegally exporting sensitive technology to China.
Prosecutors say Sam Ching Sheng Lee and his nephew, Charles Lee, were arrested Tuesday. The felony charges were filed Dec. 16 and unsealed Wednesday.
U.S. attorney's spokesman Thom Mrozek says the men sent 10 thermal-imaging cameras to China through their Hacienda Heights import-export business.
Prosecutors say the Department of Commerce restricts the export of the cameras for national security and regional stability reasons. One was allegedly sent to an employee of a Shanghai infrared technology company.
If convicted, both men face a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.
