Two children nearly drowned Wednesday in the San Fernando Valley, officials said.
A 14-month-old boy fell into a swimming pool shortly after 12 p.m. at a home in the 9700 block of Gerald Avenue in North Hills, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
When paramedics arrived, the boy was out of the water and in good condition. He was taken to Northridge Hospital as a precaution.
Less than 30 minutes later in the 6200 block of Ethel Avenue in Valley Glen, a 5-year-old boy was "out of sight" for no more than two minutes before his mother found him floating motionlessly in the backyard pool, Humphrey said.
When paramedics arrived, the boy was lethargic, but conscious and breathing on his own, Humphrey said.
He was taken to Children's Hospital in serious condition.
"These incidents underscore the fact that drownings never take a holiday," Humphrey said. "Drowning remains a year around danger. Always watch the water."
