2 Girls, 2 And 5, Injured In Rollover Wreck
AZUSA
Two young girls, ages 2 and 5, were both ejected from the car they were riding in and injured during a traffic collision Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
Sharon Daggett, 65, of Covina, was driving a 2002 Toyota southbound on
Barranca Avenue, just north of Base Line Road in an unincorporated area between Azusa and Glendora, shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday when her Toyota crashed into the right side of a 1998 Ford.
The Ford was driven by Amanda Anaya, 27, of Azusa, according to the California Highway Patrol. Anaya was driving the two young girls.
The Ford flipped over numerous times, causing the girls to be ejected and
land on the road, the CHP reported.
The 2-year-old, who was in a child safety seat that was reportedly not properly installed, was ejected along with the safety seat and suffered multiple abrasions to her left hand and left leg and a bruise to her forehead, according to the CHP officers who responded to the scene.
The 5-year-old suffered an open skull fracture, multiple cuts to the head, right elbow and right leg, bleeding in the brain and glass fragments embedded throughout her body, the CHP reported.
She was restrained with a lap and shoulder belt, but authorities said
she should have been in a child safety seat as well.
Anaya had cuts and scratches to her left shoulder and neck.
She and the children were rushed to USC-Los Angeles County Medical Center.
Daggett was taken to Foothill Presbyterian Hospital by a family member
for treatment of minor injuries to her back and hips.
The cause of the collision was unknown, and no arrests were made,
according to the CHP.
