Search Begins For Possible Dead

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Authorities have begun to comb the vast mobile home park in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley for possible victims but believe most residents had fled.

About 500 trailers were burned when a wind-fanned fire roared through the Oakridge Mobile Home Park Friday night.

Los Angeles County Assistant Coroner Chief Ed Winter says Sunday's search is just a "precautionary measure."

There are no confirmed deaths but some officials fear that not all of the park's residents made it out alive.

Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton said that many elderly people lived at the park and might have had a hard time getting out. He also says there are many burned cars at the park, even though people who evacuate usually take their vehicles.

Authorities said there are no confirmed deaths. Firefighters will focus on burned houses where people left behind their cars.

The search could last several days.
