LAPD Chief Bratton Honored By Queen Of England

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Los Angeles police Chief William Bratton is being honored by the Queen of England for his contributions to law enforcement.

At a ceremony in Washington, Bratton was named an Honorary Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. The award is one step shy of knighthood and is widely used to honor non-Britons for public service.

British Ambassador to the United States Sir Nigel Sheinwald says Bratton has led a positive transformation in police work.

British tabloids have speculated for years on rumors that Bratton is going to someday take over the top job at Scotland Yard.

Bratton abruptly announced his resignation from the LAPD last month, saying he intends to join a global security firm based in Virginia.
