PACOIMA, Calif. (AP) ― Police arrested a suspected car thief who fled after three of his accomplices, including one who was wounded by police, were nabbed at the end of a pursuit, authorities said.

The pursuit began on Chatsworth Street, west of Arleta Avenue at 10:07 p.m. Sunday when two officers attempted to pull over a green 1999 four-door Toyota Camry for reckless driving, said Los Angeles Police Services Representative M. Fairbanks of the Mission Station.

Police later learned the vehicle was reported stolen, Fairbanks said.

The car stopped on Laurel Canyon Boulevard at Chamberlain Street, east of the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway, where the suspects, described as men 18 to 25 years in age, got out, she said.

One of the suspects pulled out a handgun and pointed it at officers, prompting police to open fire, striking the suspect in the neck and thigh, Fairbanks said.

The wounded man was transported to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, she said. The suspect was in critical but stable condition, said Deputy Police Chief Michel Moore.

The handgun was recovered at the scene, Fairbanks said.

A second man remained inside the vehicle and was taken into custody, but two other suspects fled, she said.

A police dog tracked down a third man in an underground parking structure at an apartment complex in the 10800 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, she said. He was transported to the hospital with a dog bite on his arm, according to a camera crew at the scene.

A perimeter was established at the location and a helicopter and police dogs were deployed in the search for a fourth man, who was found at the apartment complex about 3:30 a.m., according to a Mission Station officer.

No immediate evacuations were issued, Fairbanks said.
