Chase Ends With Police Tackling Female Suspect
LOS ANGELES
Police first said they were chasing a female suspect Monday afternoon for a failure to yield. They didn't realize just how unyielding she would become.
After a chase that began in Irwindale, police apprehended the suspect on a Glendale off-ramp. CHP officers boxed in her blue BMW.
The woman got out of her car but refused to get on the ground.
Chopper 2 flying overhead saw when a police officer tackled the woman and slammed her into the concrete face first.
The chase began at 4:39 p.m. after the suspect allegedly sideswiped a car driven by a Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad member driving home on the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway, according to Officer Ana Aguirre. Early reports suggested the driver simply didn't stop and "failed to yield."
Much of the chase was on surface streets and the Foothill Freeway, where traffic was relatively light as the evening rush was about to start.
The chase went as far east as San Dimas in the San Gabriel area.
After nearly 45 minutes, the chase was back on the Ventura (134) Freeway. The suspect was nabbed when she tried to exit at the Brand Boulevard off-ramp.
She fought five officers who wrestled her to the ground, and was uncooperative as they tried putting her into the back of a patrol car.
Officers restrained her by tying up her feet.
