Man Accused Of 1964 Killing In O.C. To Stand Trial
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) ―
An elderly man has been ordered to stand trial for allegedly strangling a Santa Ana motel manager more than 40 years ago.
After a two-day hearing, a Superior Court judge on Monday ruled there is enough evidence to try 68-year-old Charles Faith Jr.
The Phelan man is accused of killing Christine Wariner on Feb. 16, 1964, at the California Hotel.
She had been battered and suffocated, and appeared to have been sexually assaulted.
Faith was arrested in November 2007 after cold-case detectives claimed they matched his fingerprints to prints on Wariner's hotel door.
It is the oldest cold-case homicide investigation in Orange County history to result in an arrest and prosecution.
Faith, who was not a suspect in 1964, showed no emotion as he sat in a wheelchair and heard the judge order a trial.
