Carona Corruption Trial Pushed Back To August
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) ―
A federal judge has postponed former Orange County Sheriff Michael Carona's trial date on public corruption charges by more than two months.
U.S. District Court Judge Andrew J. Guilford postponed Carona's trial to Aug. 26 at a hearing Friday after defense attorneys said they needed more time.
Carona, who was head of the nation's fifth-largest sheriff's department, has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy, mail fraud and witness tampering. He retired as sheriff in January.
