A would-be carjacker allegedly shot a man at a self-service car wash in Santa Ana Tuesday, before fleeing the scene, police said.
The victim, described as a 26-year-old Santa Ana resident, was standing by the driver's side of his 4-door Honda about 10 a.m. at 220 S. Main St. when the suspect came up from behind and demanded the car, Santa Ana police Cpl. Jose Gonzales said.
"Almost immediately, he began firing," hitting the victim multiple times in the upper body, Gonzalez said.
He was taken to an undisclosed hospital where he was in stable condition, Gonzalez said.
The victim said the suspect was 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a thin build and was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, Gonzalez said.
There was no one else at the car wash at the time, Gonzalez said.
