A producer and talent manager struck by a car on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu remained in critical condition Tuesday, a sheriff's sergeant said.
Joan Hyler was struck on PCH at Rambla Vista about 8:30 p.m. Friday and was airlifted to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, said sheriff's Sgt. Philip Brooks of the Malibu Station.
Hyler, who was crossing PCH from the beach side, was struck by a 2001 BMW driven by 50-year-old Walter Filippini of Los Angeles, he said.
Hyler was not in a crosswalk.
Filippini, who was driving about 40 mph, stopped his car after the accident, Brooks said.
"There was no sign of intoxication and no traffic violation on the part of Mr. Filippini, so there will be no further traffic investigation," Brooks
said.
"Hyler was thrown forward from the force of the collision," Brooks said.
"She suffered brain trauma and multiple fractures. Paramedics were called and she was taken to UCLA." Hyler "remains in critical condition," said Enrique Rivero of the UCLA Health Sciences Media Relations office.
According to the Web site for Joan Hyler Management, she has represented such artists as Bob Dylan, Madonna, Peter O'Toole, Ann-Margaret and the late Andy Warhol.
A former president of Women in Film, she also co-created and produced
the Jewish Image Awards, and was a visiting professor at USC.
According to the Web site for Film Reference, she also represented
actress Portia de Rossi, who married talk show host Ellen Degeneres at a ceremony in Beverly Hills Saturday night.
