Woman Killed, 2 Daughters Injured In Car Shooting

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― A woman has been shot and killed while driving her family home in South Los Angeles. Two of her teenage daughters were also injured, one of them critically.

County coroner's spokesman Ed Winter said Monday that Stephanice Latrice Smith was driving back from the store and had stopped at an intersection when another car pulled up and fired numerous shots into her car.

The shooting occurred Sunday night.

Smith was pronounced dead at a hospital. Police say her 13-year-old daughter was shot in the arm. The other girl, Smith's 15-year-old stepdaughter, was also hit and is in critical condition. Winter says the teens are expected to survive.

Smith's 21-year-old son was also in the car but was not hit.

Authorities say the victims did not appear to be affiliated with gangs.
