Council Approves Tower Next To Capitol Records

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― The Los Angeles City Council has approved plans for a 16-story condo and office tower next to Capitol Records in Hollywood.

The unanimous vote on Friday came after Capitol parent EMI Music North America and others argued that noise from the construction site and other interferences would ruin the aural qualities of the studio's underground echo chambers.

Developer Second Street Ventures insists that walls, a foam barrier and other measures will protect the signature sound of the facility.

Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Natalie Cole and Paul McCartney are among the famed musicians who have recorded at the studio since its 1956 opening.
