CHP To Begin 'Maximum Enforcement Period'

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― Don't get in trouble on the road over the holiday weekend!

The California Highway Patrol will begin a maximum enforcement period Friday night to help crack down on drunk driving, speeding and other traffic offenses.

The 54-hour operation begins at 6 p.m. and will end Sunday at midnight.

Last year, 41 people died on California roads during the 4th of July weekend. Almost half of them were not wearing a seatbelt.
