CHP: 86 Vehicles Involved In Highway 99 Pileup
FRESNO (AP) ―
The California Highway Patrol says just 86 cars and trucks were involved in the fog-related pileup two weeks ago, instead of the 108 vehicles they originally counted.
Two people were killed and 41 injured in the chain-reaction accident on Highway 99 in the early morning of Nov. 3.
Officer Scott Jobinger said investigators revised the figures downward after finding that 22 vehicles at the crash site weren't involved.
The massive pileup shut down the freeway's northbound lanes for hours and left diesel fuel, broken glass and mangled cars strewn along a one-mile stretch south of Fresno.
