Police have released a composite sketch of the well-dressed bandit who posed as a police detective wanted for tying up two employees and robbing a movie theater at the Buena Park Mall.
The suspect wore sunglasses when he entered the Krikorian Premiere Theatres, 8290 La Palma Ave., at about 2:30 p.m. Monday, Buena Park police Sgt. William Kohanek said. Wearing a white dress shirt, green tie and black slacks, the suspect told the theater manager he was a detective investigating a crime trend in the area and showed him a business card, badge, holster and handgun.
The manager and the suspect went into the theater office and the manager opened the safe for him.
The suspect spent more than an hour "checking the serial numbers of the money in the safe, then pulled the gun, pointed it at the manager and his assistant and tied them up. He also removed the hard drives from the computers that operated video surveillance equipment before fleeing with the cash.
Kohanek declined to disclose the exact amount of the loss.
The man was described as being in his late 30s, 6 feet tall, with a thin build, brown eyes and short black hair in a "clean-cut" style.
The suspect was last spotted driving off in a newer, white two-door Honda or similar type of car.
