Fallen Firefighter Brent Lovrien Laid To Rest

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― A Los Angeles firefighter killed by an explosion during an electrical fire was remembered today as a selfless professional who knew the risks of his job.

Hundreds of firefighters from around the nation gathered at a memorial service for 35-year-old Brent Lovrien.

Bagpipes sounded as his fire engine-red casket was brought from City Hall to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. The casket bore the number of his station, 95, and an honor guard carried fire axes.

Lovrien was killed March 26 when he turned on a power saw to cut into an electrical panel at a building in the Westchester area.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said of Lovrien, "For 10 years he lived to wake up every morning and put on his uniform. Not for glory or praise."
